EKU Woodchip Trail and Farm Trail

EKU has lots of great places to run. You can hit the track, run through campus, or even circle the intramural fields. A lot of people don’t realize it, but EKU has two trails available for those of us that like to get off the pavement from time to time.

EKU WOODCHIP TRAIL is right at a mile and a fairly easy run. There are some hills to contend with, but nothing too significant. The woodchip surface is great to run on and drains quickly so it is a great option not long after rain.

EKU FARM TRAIL¬†is right at 3.1 miles so it is a perfect 5K training course. ¬†Not just because the distance is right, but you won’t be able to sign up for a 5K Race around here that is more challenging. If you master the Farm Trail you will sail through any 5K you sign up for.

The biggest drawback to these trails is the lack of facilities. There are no restrooms or water fountains. So if you plan to run there be sure to bring some water. One upside is that you go right past Orange Leaf when leaving so the reward for running is close by.

You can access these trails by turning onto McKinney Skills Drive which is off of Kit Carson Drive or following the signs to the challenge course off of Lancaster Drive heading away from EKU.
