The point behind running or exercise in general isn’t to become invincible. Life is hard and exercise is hard, but we have to learn to overcome. Life will throw shots at you. Runs will have nasty hills pop up in front of you. Walks will sometimes seem like they are never going to end. All of that is normal, all of that is what actually makes you stronger mentally and physically. Continue reading How Hard Can You Get Hit And Keep Moving Forward?
So the dreaded freezing temps have finally made it to central Kentucky. We have our resolutions or race plans to deal with so bundling up for the next 3 months and hiding under the covers isn’t an option. Yeah, it’s cold and yeah it is going to be hard to get out and go, but in the end if you want to improve yourself you have to make yourself push through the hard stuff. I think 10 degree weather would be considered the hard stuff.
There are some things you can do to make it a little less painful and I’m not talking about moving south for the winter. Although that would work too. Continue reading It Snot That Cold
In running, just like every other aspect of life, you must push yourself to grow yourself. It’s impossible to make yourself better without pushing yourself to the point of being a little bit uncomfortable. That could be any part of your life. Like the video says…If you want something find a way to get it done! No matter what, even cold rain.
If there is one thing I have learned over the last few years is that you need to choose carefully the people that you model your life after. A lot of people have a lot of ideas and are perfectly willing to pass these ideas off as the best way to do something. Or they have great ideas for you, but they are unwilling or worse unable to live them out themselves.
I have no real opinion of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, in most instances but one area of his life has always fascinated me. Mark knows how to set a good goal for himself. Continue reading What’s Your Goal?
I ordered this exact watch refurbished from Walmart back in the summer. It is a great price on a really good GPS watch. The heart rate monitor is a nice feature to have if your focus is weight loss. It will help you get your workout going at the pace that is working your heart hard enough, but not too hard. Continue reading Garmin Forerunner 210 with Heart Rate Monitor
A new feature I am excited to start for Run Richmond is People Profiles. I will do interviews from time to time with either local runners that should inspire us or actual Run Richmond members that already inspire me. If the goal of this group is to build community what better way to do that than to help people get to know each other.
Our first profile is Kat Pagano. I got to know Kat via the Madison Central Cross Country team. My daughter is a team member and Kat is one of the coaches. I can tell you that the guys and girls on the team are amazed by Kat’s dedication to running. She is an amazing athlete that these kids are lucky to have the opportunity to be exposed to.
I want to say thank you to Kat for taking the time to do this and I hope you all read closely her answer about why she continues to run. I agree 100% with what she says and I think we can all probably stand to learn that lesson to some degree. Continue reading Run Richmond People Profiles
The title of this post is a quote that fits me perfectly. I love doing runs that other people think are crazy. Not long after I started running I ran up Big Hill that heads towards Jackson County. A few months ago a friend and I ran from I-75 Exit 99 to Exit 97. That doesn’t sound difficult until you realize that is across the river from Lexington to Madison Co. We went down under the interstate and crossed the little bridge and then back up the other side.
People tried for days beforehand to convince us that it was a bad idea and we would either be begging for a ride up the hill or get ran over by a car. Once people started trying to tell me it was a bad idea my mind was made up and there was no going back. Your brain quite likely isn’t wired like mine. You may be a lot more rational than I am. That quote to you may mean nothing. Well I figure the best way to put a quote up that will strike a nerve with lots of readers is to put lots of quotes. So I searched the internet and have posted a bunch here. Feel free to use them however you wish. It’s the time of year that people start making resolutions to do things different in the coming year. We all know that quite frequently those resolutions have to do with our health. Some people want to lose weight, some gain muscle, and some just change unhealthy habits. I hope that if you are reading this sight your resolution may include something to do with running and/or walking. Continue reading Non-Competitive Competition
This story is about a girl that trained hard even when it didn’t seem to matter or be working. She kept at it and her goals became a reality. I think sometimes we forget that God never promised that our path would be easy or comfortable. He did promise though that He would be there to help us through. This girl understood that if she stuck with it she had a chance to do what she wanted. Nothing was guaranteed, but she had a chance. Continue reading Finish A Champion
If you are anything like me your motivation for anything will have peaks and valley’s. Running is a major part of my life now. I enjoy doing it and it enables me to work towards the fitness goals I have for myself. It seems like those two thinks alone would be enough to keep me motivated to stay at it. It is logical that if something is good for you and you enjoy it that you will be able to get yourself to do it. This may not surprise any of you that know me, but I have never been an extremely logical person. Continue reading It’s Been A Struggle
