Deciding that you want to make running or walking part of your life is step one. Step two is hopefully getting other people involved in what you are doing, maybe people from a local running group. I hear the Run Richmond group is pretty amazing. Their may or may not be a step 3 for you. Some people are perfectly happy to run 2 or 3 times a week, get the health benefits from it and go on with the rest of their life.

We had 3 different paces and distances done this morning so if you want to come out more than likely somebody will be there to run or walk with you.
Now off to the Horse Park for the KHSAA State Cross Country meet to support Madison Central.
If you read this blog then you most likely live in or around Richmond, KY and are aware of the passing of Officer Ellis. This is a tragic murder of a man out doing his job. He has a wife and a young son that will deal with the repercussions of one man’s decision for the rest of their lives. I hope Richmond will get behind this family in a way that shows how much we love and respect what Officer Ellis did for his community.

A true workout that is going to really pay dividends for your body isn’t going to feel great. No Pain No Gain can get people into trouble though because there are limits to what our body can handle. Pushing yourself hard and feeling it later is different than killing yourself. You want to be able to still have some level of pleasure left after your workout. If it is a truly miserably experience then I doubt you will stick to it. That goes for running, the gym and even diets.
Getting or staying healthy and/or losing weight are incredibly important goals. You need to make sure your plan is sustainable. When I started this process I did a diet that consisted of fasting 2 days a week. The fast limited my calorie intake on those days to 600 calories. I did that for about a month and lost good weight with it. The problem was that it wasn’t sustainable. Find a diet, running plan, workout plan and work/rest balance schedule that is sustainable and it will be so much easier to reach your goals.

Treadmill running is pretty much evil if you ask me and since you most likely clicked something to get here I am going to pretend you actually asked me. Somehow I always run harder and excerpt more energy on the treadmill than I do on the same run outside, at least that is how it feels. I can knock out 8:30 miles for a couple hours outside and still feel pretty good. I can get on the treadmill and run 30 minutes at what it tells me would be an 8:45 pace and be begging for mercy. I now have a course map up for the EKU Woodchip and Farm Trails. These are great trails because they are easy to get to and offer two completely different workouts. You can combine the two trails and get right at 5 miles in. If you have never been there I can assure you that it will be 5 miles you will remember.
