Historic Haunt 2016

Historic Haunt-Race_LogoIt’s Official! Run Richmond has it’s first race set. On October 22nd we will have a 5K/10K race at White Hall State Historic Site. The race will start/finish right in front of the White Hall House. We will have a free Little Goblins run on the property as well. This means that every member of the family will have an event to look forward to.

White Hall State Historic Site was the home of Cassius Marcellus Clay, 19th century emancipationist, politician, newspaper publisher, Ambassador to Russia, and friend to Abraham Lincoln.  Clay’s daughter, Laura Clay, lived at White Hall and was politically active for women’s suffrage and state’s rights.  In 1920 she became the first woman nominated for President of the United States by a major political party.  The restored Italianate mansion was built in 1798 and remodeled in the 1860s.  General Green Clay built the original brick Georgian-style home called Clermont.  Cassius M. Clay inherited the house upon his father’s passing.  He and his wife Mary Jane Warfield Clay built the new addition that more than doubled the size of the house and added such modern amenities as indoor plumbing and central heating.

On race day your bib will get you $1.00 off price of adult ticket to tour the house and kids 12 and under will be free. Later that evening White Hall State Historic house will be doing their annual Ghost Walk. This is where, for the last 20 years, the Clay family has come “back to life” to tell their story.  The Ghost Walk is an extremely popular event that draws people from near and far.

This 5K/10K is designed to be more than just a race. This is designed to be an event to showcase the White Hall State Historic Site and give entire families an event to look forward to. Young kids can do the Little Gobblins Run and everyone else can pick their distance. There will be overall and age division winners but more than that there will be an atmosphere that encourages everyone from first place to last. It will be a timed race, but in the big picture times don’t matter and community does. Help me make this an event more than a race. Registration will open soon and I will keep you all updated here on www.runrichmondky.com.
